Applying Thermal Compound Paste to CPU on a Dell Inspiron 3847 Desktop

Owning a desktop computer I think is better than owning a laptop, specially so when it comes time to do some basic maintenance service to your computer such as applying thermal to your cpu; it sure is a lot easier to do so on a desktop than a laptop.

You need to get in the habit of applying thermal paste to your computer every couple of months, doing so let say every 6 months to a year is recommended in my opinion to maintain your desktop computer processor; following this simple routine will help prolong the life of your cpu.

The application is the same for a laptop computer too though, the difference is that is easier to open a desktop than it’s to open a laptop to get to the cpu; considering that a desktop is likely to be used more often and more so for gaming is for sure the required one out of the two.

Something to keep in mind though is that if you attempt to remove the thermal compound paste that is on top of your processor which you find to be somewhat wet, that is an indication that the thermal condition is good so just apply a bit more to level it; there is no need to clean the thermal at this stage of the thermal paste.

However when applying thermal to your cpu, you find it to be dried somewhat rocky like where it cracks; that is for sure an indicator that is time to remove that thermal for you to apply new paste; this typically happens when it’s being a very long time and not so much on newer applications which are within months to years of use.

If you are running an i7 processor or better like an i9 processor let say, you for sure want to be doing this every 6 months to no more than 12 months; doing so should allow the processor to last for as long as is intended to by the manufacturer.

The thermal paste is designed to keep the heat low, considering that the processor heats up when in use; it allows less heat to build up overtime when a good amount of thermal paste is present.

The process is very straight forward as all you need to do is remove the cpu cooler, after you have done that then cleanup the existing thermal paste and more so if is in like a dried not wet like condition; then apply a good ball drop size on top of the processor and just mount the cpu cooler back in place.
